At Monreith Animal World, just a few miles away, in twelve acres of scenic countryside, you can see and meet owls, otters, alpacas, donkeys and many other favourites.
There are riding stables at Calgow, near Newton Stewart.
The Merrick Leisure Centre has an indoor swimming-pool in Newton Stewart.
Agnew Park in Stranraer has a large boating lake, a miniature railway and a mini car racing circuit.
Logan Fish Ponds – these are 200-year old storage ponds for live fish, which have been adapted from natural rock formations. They are full of exciting sea creatures and are open to visitors daily.
In Creetown, there is a Gemrock Museum which has a fascinating collection of rocks, fossils and minerals, as well as a gift shop and cafe.
Slightly further away, organic Rainton Farm near Gatehouse of Fleet, home of the famous ‘Cream O’ Galloway’ ice-cream, organises nature trails and summer activities as well as farm visits. They also have a 3-D maze, adventure playground and cafe.
The Chocolate Factory at Twynholm is a popular outing, where children can sculpt their own chocolate blocks at the Coco Bean Co.
